HALFWAY!

31,536,000 seconds.  525,949.2 minutes.  365 days.  12 months.  1/10 of a decade.  One year.
That's how long our missionary has been out!  We are thrilled to hear he is happy and loving the work.  Happy Halfway Day to you Elder Clegg!  We love and miss you!

"Hey ya`ll!

1 year ago I left my house...Alright there ya have it.

This was the best week of my mission! Our zone had a white night! We broke the record for most baptisms in a month in the last 10 years.. because before they baptized like 1,000`s.. but that was like 50 years ago. (Slight exaggeration.)

We went on divisions with Super Greenies.. The type that haven`t even left the MTC. We took them to a "hood" part.. It was a little intense for the drum major of TIMPVIEW. We got him to do a baptisimal invite.. but the dude just started laughing and left the room.. I don`t miss those days of not being able to talk.

Bryan was one of our baptisms.. we found him 15 days ago. He went from nothing to baptized so fast!  He was SO prepared. Now the rest of his family is getting baptized.

That`s all!

In Need Of Pioneers

In Utah we celebrate pioneers this week!  I admire and respect pioneers so much. Their sacrifices and the hardships they endured are inspiring.  I got to thinking that Hayden is being a pioneer. He is sacrificing and enduring hardships.  He is doing things he has never done before.  Every missionary does.   I love this quote by President Monson.   He says, "A dictionary defines a pioneer as 'one who goes before to prepare or open up the way for others to follow.'  Can we somehow muster the courage and steadfastness of purpose that characterized the pioneers of a former generation? Can you and I, in actual fact, be pioneers?  I know we can be. Oh, how the world needs pioneers today!"

Here's Elder Clegg for the week...it's short and sweet, but it sounds like he is "preparing the way for others to follow."

"Whaddup!

Good week! We had a bunch of investigators come to church. We`ve got two baptisms this next week and a lot more to come!

My comp is a beast.. and he is still in his training. This dude is an incredible missionary.

We found SOOOOO many prepared people this week. I`ve never had better people to teach in the mission..

We teach so many people from Haiti. They are dope.

That`s all..

Curl

I absolutely love that Hayden still has his sense of humor.  This week's email made me laugh out loud!  We look forward to hearing his jokes in person...in a little over a YEAR!!!

"Well I had nothing else to put as a subject, so I took the name off of a lost dog flyer. If you guys have seen Curl, probably call his owner Pedro. He`s really worried and has a reward.

This week was great! We found 3 families to teach... They are even married. That`s a crazy, rare thing. We've been getting so many blessings for our ward. It`s been a little harder to baptize in this sector.. but I feel like they are all gonna come at once! We have the people, now we just have to get them in the water.

My mom always tells me to tell spiritual experiences, so I will! Haha we contacted ALL day yesterday.. In the rain.. and it was one of those days that makes you want to hop on a plane and fly to Africa or Brazil and find somebody to baptize.. but then we got into an apartment complex.. and started to knock.  It`s ALWAYS THE LAST DOOR. We were about to go home, but decided to try one more door. It just so happened to be a super prepared family. That happened like every day this week.

Only in Chile do the members fast for rain and then not come to church the next day when it rains. Haha that thought hit me this week and it was like.. WOW. We have to try to remember who gave us everything.. and the moment we get what we want, we can't forget Him.

That probably made no sense, but it`s all good!

I grilled some meat on the roof of our tower today. We suck at cooking, but dang the view was nice.

Let me know if anybody finds Curl or if they find out why he's named Curl in the first place.

Love,
Elder Clegg"

Crazy!

Mike and I love the music artist Seal.  He sings a song that kept running through my head as I read Hayden's email this week.  It's called "Crazy".   If you grew up in the 80's or 90's, you are sure to know this song.   I've included some of the lyrics here.  Between training a new missionary, trying to be district leader, Chile winning the "2015 Copa America" and finding more people to teach, it does sound like Hayden's week has been crazy!

 "Crazy"

In a church by the face
He talks about the people going under
Only child know
A man decides after seventy years
That what he goes there for
Is to unlock the door
While those around him criticize and sleep
And through a fracture on that breaking wall
I see you my friend and touch your face again
Miracles will happen as we trip
But we're never gonna survive unless
We get a little crazy
No we're never gonna survive unless
We are a little
Cray cray crazy
A man decides to go along after seventy years
Oh darling
In a sky full of people only some want to fly
Isn't that crazy
In a world full of people only some want to fly
Isn't that crazy
Crazy
In a heaven of people there's only some want to fly
Ain't that crazy
Oh babe Oh darlin'
In a world full of people there's only some want to fly
Isn't that crazy
Isn't that crazy, Isn't that crazy, Isn't that crazy
Oh
But we're never gonna survive unless we get a little crazy crazy
No we're never gonna to survive unless we are a little crazy (Repeat 2 times)

No no never survive unless we get a little bit
And then you see things
The size of which you've never known before
They'll break it
Someday
Only child know
Them things
The size
Of which you've never known before
Someday

"Buena Compadres!

Here we are at the end of one of the more stressful weeks of my mission! Haha it was a great one, but training is always a little crazy. My poor greenie is currently freaking out and having a fit because he forgot the mission mail address...yeah they get a little worked up sometimes. Haha his name is Elder Montero and he is from Costa Rica! I always get to train older dudes from seriously cool travel destinations!  My last 3 comps have been from Guatemala.. Cancun.. and Costa Rica!  I`ll take it.

We've been having a lot of fun here!  The work has been going crazy.  We are teaching so many Haitians right now.  I love Haitians so much!  They are the best people in the world.

My district has more missionaries than some zones in other missions, so I have been going a little crazy with that...then a "White Wash"... which is 2 new missionaries in a sector...so we've been doing well. Haha!

Fourth of July was so sweet. We had to go in early because Chile played Argentina in the Championship.. So then it got REALLY crazy when Chile won for the first time ever. Like the whole city got CRAZY for the WHOLE NIGHT! Riots, gun shots, fireworks.. all the good stuff! Haha I just pretended it was for the 4th of July and sang the National Anthem a few times. The 23rd floor comes in handy sometimes!

Well, we are happy...working hard...hope my greenie doesn`t get so mad at his computer that he goes home.. Hahaha that would be bad.

Love ya`ll
Elder Clegg

Freedom!

July 4th was the last holiday we celebrated as a family before Hayden left on his mission.  I remember thinking, "When July 4th rolls around again, Hayden will have been serving for close to a year!!"  I didn't think it would ever come around again, but here we are about to celebrate our Nation's birth.  I'm grateful for the freedoms we love.  I'm grateful that religion is one of them. I'm grateful for a son who chose to exercise his freedom and serve our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  So when those fireworks light up the sky this weekend, I'm dedicating one to Hayden!

"Hey Guys,

This week was a little bit more interesting. Looks like I am gonna be training again.. Greenies are called kids.

We didn`t have anybody come to church again. It`s all good though! I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I didn`t get along with my old comp all that much.  However, I am super pumped for this change. Don`t know my comp yet, but for today I am with Elder Brophy. He is my buddy.

The 4th of July is this week. I will be celebrating with my gringo buds that live above me. I sure do love America. I think I am one of the few here though.

Speaking of America! We found an investigator that is a BEAST! He is an Army Ranger who got injured in Iraq. He is Chilean, but chose to fight for the states. Such a cool guy.. Prepared for sure!

The Lord works miracles every. day. I love it!

Have a great week!!

Elder Clegg
